Hello!
Well September flew by and we are now into October!
Reflecting on our first month of PE the students learned the importance of living a balanced lifestyle in order to grow and develop into a strong and healthy adult.
We used the acronym S.P.A.R.K. to remind us of the 5 key ingredients to living a balanced lifestyle...
S Select Fruits and Veggies when snacking (try for 5-10 servings a day)
P Play actively for 60 minutes daily
A Avoid sugar and fat in your diet
R Reduce screen time to less than 2 hours a day
K Keep hydrated by drinking 6-8 glasses of water a day
All students worked on getting back into shape after being away from school for so long with our 5 components of health related fitness activity cards:
1) Cardio-vascular Endurance
- is that heart pumping, out of breath exercise such as running, soccer, swimming, basketball, hockey or playing tag
2) Muscular Endurance
- how long can your muscles work before getting tired
3) Muscular Strength
- how strong your muscles are
4) Flexibility
- is stretching your muscles through a full range of motion
5) Body Composition and Diet
- your body's ratio of muscle and fat as well as eating a well rounded diet from the Canadian food guide
